At the Kenya Veterinary Association (KVA) meeting that begun Thursday in Meru Town, Mercy Barasa presented her findings on the torturous conditions that the animals go through despite legislation that forbids that manner of treatment.

Consultancy for the development of regional animal genetics model policy and legal Frameworks
Animal genetic resources (AnGR) for food and agriculture are essential for Africa food security and contribution to the improvement of livelihoods of hundreds of millions of people. However, genetic improvement programmes in Africa, by governments, non-governmental organizations, bilateral aid agencies, and the private sector, have long favoured the use of exotic breeds for cross-breeding, upgrading, or replacement. These programmes are mostly implemented without clear policies, regulatory frameworks, strategic thinking and a long term view of how long-term indigenous animal genetics resources could be sustainably conserved.

50th Kenya Veterinary Association (KVA) Conference 2016
The 50th Kenya Veterinary Association Scientific Conference and 16th World Veterinary Day Celebrations, will be held as from 27th to 30th April, 2016 at Three Steers (Nairobi Pacific) Hotel, Meru county. The theme of the conference is, “The veterinary profession for socio-economic transformation and wealth creation.”
